Who Pays?

Funding for Long-Term Care. Who Pays?

There are many different ways to finance long-term care. You will probably need to use a combination of payment sources, which may include Medicaid (if available), Long-term Care Insurance, and other programs, in addition to your own resources. During our initial assessment, our Case Managers will evaluate your loved ones' needs to determine the appropriate plan of care and funding sources available.

Here is an overview of funding sources and what is covered under each program:

Medicare

It is for long-term care and covers some skilled nursing care either in a nursing home or in the home (skilled home health) and hospice. Medicare does not pay for our services.

Medicaid

The partially federally funded but state-operated program provides medical care for certain low-income individuals and families who have limited resources. Medicaid usually covers nursing home care, but in some states, funding is available for assisted living, home care, or home health care. Amazing Hearts Homecare and Staffing LLC currently provides care to those with Medicaid in Texas.

Long-term Care Insurance (LTCI)

It can cover anything from non-medical home care to nursing care; however, it depends on the type of policy you purchased. Amazing Hearts Homecare and Staffing LLC accepts all long-term care insurance and will review your policy with you to determine benefits.

VA Aid & Attendance Benefit Pension

It provides benefits for veterans and surviving spouses who require assistance with their daily activities of living, whether it is in a nursing home, assisted living community, or in their own home. Our services are covered by the Aid & Attendance Benefit. AHHAS VADocumentsNeeded

Veterans Homecare Benefits

The VA Aid and Attendance Benefit

It is an important benefit and is often overlooked by many veterans and their spouses. The VA does not normally contact veterans to inform them of a benefit. Sadly, very few people are aware that this benefit exists. Amazing Hearts Homecare and Staffing LLC works diligently to provide our families and community the information needed to obtain this widely under-used benefit.

The Aid and Attendance Pension provides benefits for veterans and surviving spouses who require the regular attendance of another person to assist in eating, bathing, dressing, undressing, or taking care of the needs of nature. It also includes individuals who are blind or a patient in a nursing home because of mental or physical incapacity. Assisted care in an assisted living facility and private duty or home care are included.

Here are the 2024 Maximum Monthly Pension Rates for Aid and Attendance

To qualify for Aid & Attendance:

  • At least 90 days of active duty, but need not have served in combat.
  • One day of active duty during a period of war
  • Discharged from service under conditions other than dishonorable
  • It needs to be established by your physician that you require daily assistance from others to dress, undress, bath, cook, eat, take on or off prosthetics, leave home, etc. You DO NOT have to require assistance with all of these. There simply needs to be adequate medical evidence that you cannot function completely on your own.
  • Financial qualifications must be met. Contact us for more information.

Long-Term Care Insurance

Long-term care insurance, also known as LTC insurance, is typically not what most Americans consider to be a needed type of insurance. However, this type of insurance has helped several families finance care for their loved ones in their better years.

If your loved one has a long-term care policy, it is important to review the documents carefully. Amazing Hearts Homecare and Staffing LLC. can discuss your policy with you at the time of our assessment. It’s very important to evaluate policies carefully in order to ensure a successful claim has been processed. We can review the amount of the daily benefit, the number of years the policy will pay benefits, and the number of days or months before the policy will begin paying benefits.

LTC insurance covers the following, depending on the policy your loved one has:

  • Care in a Skilled Nursing Facility
  • Care in an Assisted Living Facility
  • Home Health Care
  • Private Duty Care

We can help you determine what your policy covers and will process your claim as part of our service. As a courtesy, we may bill your loved one’s insurance policy directly with your assignment of benefits approval.

If you would like information on how to obtain a long-term care policy, please contact your insurance agent or contact us for a representative in your area.
